The Breakneck boys rose early traveling north to the USATF Cross Country 5k Championships held at Natirar Park, Peapack-Gladstone, Sunday August 26. While Quilty passed out our new powder blue singlets we caught up with our northern most club members and plotted are race plan for the day. Our warm-up provided a great preview of the challenge course to come and before we knew it the race was off. A slow pace across the grass starting line continued onto the cinder path then up the first hill with runners from Breakneck, Shore AC and Garden State leading the charge. The race kicked up a notch as we progressed along to our first down hill, the race was on. Collin pushed to the lead over the next mile, Quilty and DuBois settled in 4th and 5th while the rest of the gang was working their way up through the field. The last mile proved quick with Breakneck runners streaming in across the finish line, all that was left was to wait on the score. Breakneck won the day 39 to 59 over Garden State A!!! Our first USATF 5k Championships since 1997! A fun day was had by all capped off by some Time To Eat Diner action.
